Ed barely gets any sleep, kept up all night in fear of his family, confusion and fear floods Ed’s mind and he cannot escape the fear. He gets his family out of the house and brings them to the park to enjoy a day away from that house. At the park the girls swung on the swings and Tommy played catch with Eli with a baseball. Ed and Jess got some time to talk and enjoyed a stress relieving day. A homeless man approaches Jess and Ed.
“Excuse me, do you have any spare change I could use anything.”
“Sorry man I don't carry any cash on me”
“Please sir, please”
“Get out of here, I got nothing for you…”
The man takes a slight pause staring and the couple
“Alright… enjoy the rest of your day… Ed…”
The man turns and walks away and is gone over the hill within minutes.
“What the hell was that Ed, how did he know your name?”
“I, I don't know.”
Later that afternoon the family returns to Forest Drive, Ed shakingly opens up the front door and the family floods in the house with no fear, nothing but the happy home feeling, but not for Ed, he is uneasy… it doesn't feel like home. The kids resume watching The Price is Right while Ed cooks dinner in the other room, Ed is cooking BBQ chicken and a rice with broccoli, the girls favorite. He overhears the TV and takes a look from the kitchen to watch
“Alright Eddy it’s time to choose… Times up.”
Ed pauses and focuses more on the TV
“You can choose number 1, Abby.”
The crowd applause
“You can choose number 2, Megan.”
The crowd roars again
“Or, you can choose number 3, Shannon.”
Ed begins to shake as he doesn’t know how to respond
“Can you girls watch something else please.”
“Why dad?”
“Please honey, please… for daddy.”
“OK sure, hold on a second.”
Ed focuses back on the TV to the host looking into the camera
“Times up Eddy, it’s time to choose…”
Ed goes back into the kitchen and continues to cook dinners for his family, the foods done and Ed calls his family down for dinner,
everyone eats and talks around the table, Tommy gets an off feeling about Ed and asks him to talk in the side room.
“It's the numbers isn't it dad…”
“What?”
“I see them too, the scratch mark in my room is up to 3 scratches… something's not right Dad.”
“I know, something's not right here, your mother and I keep seeing numbers appearing on the TV screen at night.”
“Well what do they say.”
“I keep seeing that I need to choose one between Shannon, Megan and Abby.”
“Need to choose one of them for what?”
“Well, I don't know, that's what I need to figure out.”
They both walk away and return back to the table and continue eating. After dinner they all get together to play a game in the living room, everyone is playing life and the game is halted by a large bang upstairs, everyone looks around confused and Megan breaks the silence
“Oh no! that’s probably my antique boat!”
Megan begins to get up and start upstairs when Ed rushes up and begins to chase her, trying to catch up.
“MEGAN, STOP!”
She runs into her room and the door crashes with a bang behind her halting her father who bangs and bangs on the door
“DADDY!” Megan screams inside the room
“OPEN THE DOOR HONEY, DADDY’S RIGHT HERE.”
Silence breaks and a shallow creaking begins to start.
“MEGAN!?”
Jess and the rest of the family run upstairs behind Ed and are frantically freaking out
“WHERE IS SHE?” Jess yells
“Shut up, listen.” he snaps
The silence around the house is drowns everyone out, as everyone begins to hear a slow creaking walking towards the door, everyone's hearts drop and the doorknob begins to turn as Ed takes his hand off the doorknob. The door slowly opens and everyone is frozen in place, everyone is forced to look the other way and weep, everyone except Ed. Ed stays completely rock solid still and stares as he watches his daughters lifeless body hang… Ed stands, no emotion and no reaction. Nothing but a single tear, slowly crawling down the side of his face and hanging on to his chin, dangling from his chin and finally dropping and splashing onto the cold hardwood floor.
